Aurelia sneered.
"Why?" Her voice was sharp, filled with something cruel. "Because you brought a calamity to the entire East Region. And to my guild."
Her eyes narrowed, emotionless.
"I could ignore the East. But my guild? No."
She leaned in, her lips nearly brushing his ear. Her next words were a whisper, but they cut deeper than any blade.
"It’s also revenge. For your sister’s betrayal."
Max’s eyes widened.
No. No. No.
His heart pounded as realization slammed into him like a hammer.
"YOU—!"
His voice cracked. His vision swam. He coughed violently, more blood spilling from his lips.
His body shook. His knees buckled.
If not for his ridiculously strong physique, he would have died instantly.
But even with his strength—he could feel it.
His body was failing.
And the worst part?
The pain in his chest wasn’t from the wound.
It was from betrayal.
"AURELIA! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
The silence shattered.
Ralph’s voice roared through the battlefield, shaking everyone from their stupor. His expression was one of pure disbelief. Shock. Rage. Horror.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
His face contorted, his body trembling. He hadn’t seen this coming. No one had.
Kate’s eyes were wide, frozen in place. Even she—who had been wary, who had sensed something was off—had never expected this.
Reality was crueler than expectations.
And then—
"HAHAHAHA!"
Laughter. Wild, unhinged.
Norton.
He grinned like a madman, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Good, Aurelia. Very good."
His voice dripped with approval, with amusement. "I’ve always known that out of all the leaders in the East, you were the one I couldn’t quite figure out. But now? Now I see… You’re just like me."
He took a step forward.
"You’d do anything to protect the East Region."
Aurelia’s gaze remained steady. Cold. Unwavering.
She ignored Norton. Ignored Ralph. Ignored Kate.
Her focus was solely on Max.
She tightened her grip on the sword still lodged in his stomach.
And then, without hesitation—
"Die!"
She thrust the blade forward, aiming to destroy him completely.
A clean kill.
A final execution.
But—
"I WON’T ALLOW IT!"

Kate moved.
Her hand snapped forward, and in an instant—
A concentrated sphere of space aura tore through the air.
It shot straight at Max.
Faster than thought.
At the same time—
Aurelia’s sword plunged forward.
But—
Max vanished when the sphere of concentrated space aura hit him.
One moment, the blade was about to tear through him completely.
The next—
He was gone.
A sudden vacuum of silence followed.
The sword pierced only empty space.
"He’s gone…"
Aurelia’s voice was quiet, but there was no uncertainty in it. She turned to Kate, her eyes sharp.
"Where did you send him?"
Kate’s gaze was cold, unwavering.
"I don’t know," she said bluntly. "I hit him with a concentrated ball of space aura containing my teleportation skill. He could be anywhere in the East Region."
Aurelia exhaled slowly, her expression unreadable.
"Because of you, he escaped," she said, her tone measured. "But it doesn’t matter."
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"He won’t survive for long."
A pause.
Then, her voice turned colder.
"Others would have already died from a wound like that. But he held on."
A slight shift in her expression—analyzing, calculating.
"Still… he won’t last much longer considering his injuries."
Kate’s frown deepened. The sheer ruthlessness in Aurelia’s voice…
She had never seen this side of hers.
This was beyond expectation.
Kate opened her mouth, about to say something—
Then froze.
Her breath hitched.
Something in the sky… changed.
Her head snapped upward, eyes widening in shock.
A shadow.
Faint. Faint but undeniable.
A face.
A vague silhouette, forming within the shifting clouds, its presence lingering like a distant omen.
But Kate knew exactly what it was.
Who it was.
Her pulse quickened.
The Young Monarch.
The image wasn’t as clear as the last two times. But for someone at her level, there was no mistaking it.
The others… they wouldn’t see it.
They wouldn’t even feel the strange, oppressive pressure radiating from the sky.
But Kate could.
Someone of her level would would surely notice this.
And she knew—
This wasn’t a coincidence.
"You all did a good job driving Max away."
The voice rumbled through the sky, deep and unwavering. It carried authority, a weight that pressed down only on the leaders of the East Region.
Others couldn’t hear him.
The Young Monarch.
His faint shadow still lingered in the clouds, his presence undeniable.
"Especially you, Aurelia."
A pause.
"I expected you to shield Max, but I underestimated you."
His tone carried something unsettling—a mix of amusement and approval.
"And because of you all, I won’t be declaring war on the East. Not anytime soon."
Then, just as suddenly as it had appeared—
The face dissolved.
The clouds shifted back to normal, and the sky returned to its usual stillness.
But the weight of his words remained.
Kate’s frown deepened, her expression growing solemn.
She turned to Ralph. "From the looks of it…" she spoke quietly, her voice tense, "The Young Monarch knows where my teleportation skill sent Max."
Ralph’s face darkened.
"That’s bad."
His hands clenched into fists. "Max is already heavily injured—on the verge of death. If the Monarch’s forces find him in this state…"
His voice turned grim.
He didn’t hesitate.
"I’ll send my family to find him."
With those final words, he turned and hurried away.
Meanwhile, Norton let out a harsh snort.
"That kid is as good as dead."
He smirked, shaking his head.
"Injuries that deep? He can’t even move. And now the Monarch’s people are hunting him?"
A dry chuckle escaped his lips as he turned away, walking toward his family.
"This game is already over."
A heavy silence settled over them, thick with unspoken tension.
Then—
"I will take my leave."
The leader of the Black Lotus Guild spoke calmly, his voice cutting through the quiet like a blade.
The moment his words fell, he and his guild members vanished—disappearing into swirling puffs of black flames.
Kate exhaled sharply, shaking her head as she turned to Aurelia.
"One should always look for ways before doing the worst thing." Her voice was firm, laced with quiet disappointment.
Aurelia met her gaze, unfazed.
"And I did just that."
Her tone was cool, unshaken.
With that, she too vanished, fading from the scene without another word.
Kate sighed, her gaze lingering on the spot where Aurelia had stood.
Then, slowly, she turned back toward her people, her thoughts shifting.
The future of the East Region…
It had always been uncertain.
But now?
Now, it felt more fragile than ever. |
