The jet carrying Max and the members of the Black Lotus Guild soared through the skies, cutting across vast distances with astonishing speed.
The hum of the engines was steady, yet powerful, and the entire journey had been smooth and uninterrupted.
Then, after what felt like only an hour or two, the aircraft began to descend.
Max's brows furrowed slightly as he gazed out of the window.
"We arrived... already?"
He had expected the journey to take at least three to four hours, but it seemed he had underestimated the speed of the jet.
They had reached the West Region far faster than he had anticipated.
As the jet touched down, Klaus rose from his seat, his gaze sweeping over the guild members.
His tone was firm, almost cold.
"We have arrived."
Then, his voice shifted into a warning tone.
"Remember this, all of you. We are an eyesore to most—if not all—the guests at this event."
His words carried weight, a reminder that the Black Lotus Guild was unwelcome here.
"Do not roam around alone. Not even for a second. And not without your masks."
A heavy silence filled the cabin as everyone acknowledged the warning.
Then, Klaus's gaze landed on Max.
Through his own mask, his eyes were serious, almost piercing.
"Especially you, Max."
Max felt the tension in those words and listened carefully.
"Do not try to contact anyone from the Phoenix Order Guild. No matter what. No matter who you see inside. Do not react."
Max's expression remained calm, but deep inside, he felt a wave of emotions stir.
Before he could process them, Klaus continued.
"Some of them may be your enemies. Some may have once been your friends. But you ought to remember—"
Klaus's tone turned sharp, filled with undeniable finality.
"Aurelia drove a sword through your heart.
And if it weren't for Kate, you'd be dead right now."
A sudden coldness washed over Max.
He had already known this—he had lived through it—but hearing it spoken so bluntly made the memory sharper.
Klaus wasn't done.
"They betrayed you. And given what happened, whatever friendship you think you still have with the Phoenix Order Guild—forget it."
The weight of those words settled heavily in the air.
For a moment, Max said nothing.
But deep inside—
Something in him shifted.
Max's fists clenched tightly at Klaus's words. His knuckles turned white, and for a moment, his breath came out slowly, controlled—holding back the emotions that threatened to surface.
He knew this.
He had lived through it.
He felt the betrayal, the pain.
But no matter what Klaus said—no matter what logic dictated—there was one person he would never stop searching for.
Alice.
They had only been together for what? Three? Maybe four months?
But in that short time, he had felt something real.
They had bonded.
He had felt her unconditional friendship, her genuine care.
The laughter. The moments shared. The small, meaningless things that somehow became important.
The memories that stuck with him.
Was all of that just… gone now?
Was that connection meaningless just because of his identity as the Voidwalker?
Was it so fragile that it could be discarded just like that?
Max didn't believe it.
Even if it wasn't love, there was still something between them.
And he wasn't willing to let it go so easily.
Max met Klaus's gaze without flinching.
"I know."
His voice was firm, unwavering.
"I won't do anything reckless, so don't worry."
Klaus studied him for a moment, his gaze searching, as if trying to read something deeper in Max's words.
Then, he nodded.
"Alright."
His tone was neutral, but there was an underlying expectation—he was trusting Max to keep his word.
With that, Klaus turned to the rest of the Black Lotus Guild members.
"Follow my lead, everyone."
Without another word, he stepped off the jet, leading the way.
The others followed behind him in disciplined silence.
The moment they stepped outside, a figure stood waiting for them at the base of the jet's landing platform.
Tall. Elegant. Dressed in royal attire with a refined air about him.
It was none other than Crown Prince Aelric.
The young man gave a polite, welcoming nod before speaking in his formal, almost rehearsed tone.
"Welcome to the Sun Palace, honorable guests."
Max raised an eyebrow slightly, giving Aelric a subtle glance.
'That's new.'
The last time Max had met Crown Prince Aelric, he had shown none of this regal behavior.
Back then, he was carefree, casual, almost like someone who had no interest in the responsibilities of royalty.
But now—
Now, he truly looked and acted like a Crown Prince.
His stance. His mannerisms. His speech.
It was a stark contrast from before.
'Guess he really can act like royalty when it matters.'
"Honorable guests," Aelric spoke again, his tone refined.
"Please follow me to your resting chambers."
Without another word, he turned and began walking toward a grand palace in the distance.
The Sun Palace.
The very heart of Royal Family of the West.
Max saw it.
The sight before him was nothing short of breathtaking.
A vast structure, its pure golden exterior shimmering under the rays of the sun, reflecting light in a way that made it seem almost divine.
For a brief moment, Max felt overwhelmed by its sheer beauty.
It was unlike anything he had ever seen before.
The architecture held the grandeur of ancient times, reminiscent of the old-world palaces he had once seen in academic history books.
Yet—
There was something more.
A blend of modern technological advancements seamlessly woven into the antique design.
Floating energy lamps lined the pathways.
Invisible barriers of protection flickered faintly at key structural points, reinforcing the palace without ruining its historical aesthetic.
The entire place exuded an aura of power, elegance, and authority.
It was, in short—magical.
But even as Max admired the palace's beauty, he couldn't help but feel that—
It wasn't as grand as the Hidden City of the Black Lotus Guild.
Yes, the Sun Palace was magnificent.
But the Hidden City?
That place was on an entirely different level.
There was something ancient, mysterious, and immeasurable about the Black Lotus Guild's hidden domain—something that made even a royal palace pale in comparison.
'I guess an ancient power does have its perks.'
Max smirked slightly at the thought.
Still—he remained quiet, his eyes scanning the palace as he walked behind Klaus and Crown Prince Aelric, following their lead. |
