"Elena, what is this?" the middle-aged man asked, hearing Maxs rambling, and turned to Elena.
Meanwhile, Anton also looked at her for an explanation.
Elena gazed at both of them and said directly, "Commander Ross, it would be better if the Union Vanguard doesnt interfere in the matters of the Blades."
Commander Ross shrugged. "Do you think I want to?" He spread his hands. "But what youre doing is wrong. Killing a kid who just awakened a week ago isnt good for either of us."
Elena narrowed her eyes at him. "Commander Ross, if I were you, I wouldnt stick my nose in this." She tapped her holowatch a couple of times, and a hologram appeared.
Only one letter could be seen on the hologram: "V" in blood-red color.
Commander Rosss eyes widened slightly. He shifted his gaze from the hologram to Max. Slowly, realization dawned upon him, and his expression hardened, a mix of intrigue and apprehension flickering across his face.
"Sorry, kid, I cant help you," he said, shaking his head in pity at Max.
"What do you mean you cant help me?" Maxs eyes widened. He hadnt expected that even a commander from the Union Vanguard wouldnt protect him.
"Its as I said, I cant help you," Commander Ross sighed. "I cant interfere in the matter between the Blades and you."
"So, are you just going to watch as she murders an innocent kid?" Max shouted, his voice cracking with rage.
The commander remained silent.
Max clenched his fists when he saw the commander lower his head. "I get it. I understand. Youre all in this together." He laughed bleakly.
"Not everyone, kid." Someone came up and patted his shoulder.
Max turned his head and saw the young man who had come with the middle-aged man.
"Elena, Im not sure why youre after this kid, but hes a member of my guild," he said indifferently. "I would appreciate it if you leave him out today."
"I cant," Elena said, shaking her head. "He needs to die."
Anton sighed, seeing her so stubborn about this. "Can you tell me the reason why youre so hell-bent on killing him? What does that letter V mean?"
"I cant tell you," Elena said directly. "You should leave with your guild here."
Anton shook his head. "I also cant. I gave my word to my sister that I would protect this kid at all costs, so as long as Im here, you should forget about killing him."
Elena frowned, and white frost began to form around her.
"Then it seems well see whether you can truly protect Max or if youll willingly give up on him," Elena said coldly, her eyes gleaming with icy resolve as she prepared to strike.
Antons frown deepened at her words. His expression quickly morphed into one of shock and urgency as realization struck him. "You dont mean to…" His eyes widened in alarm, and without hesitation, he dashed toward Alice.
"You leave me no choice," Elena said ruthlessly, her voice devoid of mercy.
But Anton was a step too late. A shadow materialized behind Alice, placing a blade at her throat. Antons steps faltered as his gaze fell on the figure holding the sword. "Killian…" he muttered darkly, his face clouded with frustration and anger.
"Big Brother…" Alices voice trembled, her expression conflicted. She froze under the blades cold touch, disbelief and fear etched into her features. She hadnt expected Elena to act so shrewdly, using such a ruthless tactic to bait Anton into letting go of Max.
Nash and Erica were shocked by this. They hadnt expected Elena to be so ruthless and decisive in using such tactics against Anton.
"This bitch…" Max cursed the silver-haired lady. He had never thought she would fall this low to kill him.
"Now, whats your choice: Alice or that kid?" Elena asked with an icy smile.
Anton looked at her with chilling eyes. "You win this time, but remember that you made a huge mistake by pointing a sword at my sister."
He then turned to the old man who stood close to Max and said softly, "Uncle Rex, leave that kid alone."
"As you wish, Young Master," the old man nodded and disappeared, leaving Max alone.
Alice saw that with a conflicted expression on her face. Her eyes became cloudy as she thought of the time she spent with Max in the dungeon.
"Im sorry, Max," she said, her tone heavy with guilt. Her voice wavered slightly as her conflicted emotions laid bare.
Max turned to her, a carefree smile spreading across his face as he chuckled. "Dont be sad, Alice. Do you really think shell be able to kill me?" His tone was light, almost teasing, as if the situation was nothing more than a passing inconvenience.
Alice didnt know if Max was bluffing or not, but the confident look on his face that she had become familiar with told her he had something up his sleeve.
Max smiled reassuringly at her and then turned to Elena. "You are such a bitch, you know that?"
A deep silence fell over the area as Maxs words hung in the air, their impact rippling through the crowd like a stone dropped into still water. The audacity of his statement left everyone frozen in shock.
Nobody had expected such disrespect to be directed at Elena, the eldest lady of the prestigious Blade Family. Her reputation for strength and pride was well-known, and her cold beauty added an air of untouchability.
To speak to her in such a manner was tantamount to courting death.
Elenas face darkened as she sent a flying sword covered in frost toward Max. It stopped just before his forehead.
"Was that your last word?" she asked coldly.
Max smiled at her and said, "My last words would be Fuck off, bitch."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the Lantern of Purple Death appeared in Maxs hands.
"Now, go and cause as much chaos as you can," Max muttered to himself.
A moment later, the purple flames inside the lantern went wild.
They began to burn wildly and escaped the clutches of the lantern, surrounding Max.
Elena swiftly attacked upon seeing the situation, but her sword was deflected by the purple flames.
Only a second later, the purple flames soared into the sky like a tornado, trapping Max inside and separating him from the others.
"How did the purple lantern appear in his hand?" Nash asked, wide-eyed, turning to Erica.
"I dont know," Erica said, completely clueless, as she watched the purple flame tornado before her. "I didnt even know the purple lantern could do such things."
Nash sighed at that. Turning to the purple flame tornado, he saw Elena relentlessly attacking it again and again, but her swords just couldnt get past the purple flames. They acted like a barrier, protecting Max from her attacks.
"This kid… He had a plan from the very beginning," Anton smiled, seeing that.
Alice also sighed in relief, realizing that Max had something to help him against Elena.
Meanwhile, Max frowned at his situation. He could use the purple flames to defend himself but only for a while before they returned to the lantern. Until then, he had to think of a way to escape.
"Big Brother, here…"
Just then, Max heard a voice beside him, almost giving him a heart attack. Turning around, he saw a portal, and on the other side stood a little girl of about ten years old, waving her hands at him.
"Big Brother… Mimi needs help…"
Max frowned. "Help?… Is that a portal?" His eyes went wide with excitement as he found his way to escape.
"Wait a minute… Im coming to help you," Max said softly.
The little girl nodded. "Mimi waits."
