Max, sensing the deadly currents swirling around him, stood silently for a moment, his eyes lowering as he closed them in thought, and deep within his mind, he weighed his options, feeling the crushing burden of knowing hed placed the Great Ruler Empire in a deeply perilous position where his actions could ignite a war that might cost countless lives.
But then, exhaling softly, a glint of cold resolve sparked in his eyes as he opened them once more, and in a flash, he moved, stepping forward with swift, decisive strides until he stood beside Emperor Hermes, startling everyone present as gasps rose from the surrounding experts who hadnt expected him to appear so boldly, and in a clear, steady voice, he said, "I am Max."
The declaration rang out through the mist like a clarion bell, sharp and impossible to ignore, as silence fell over the crowd, every eye turning toward him with a mixture of shock, curiosity, and apprehension, and Max continued, his tone calm but edged with a quiet defiance, "Seniors from the Thunder Monarch Hall and the Void Soul Tower are saying I killed a 3-star genius and a Heaven Grade genius? Is that it?"
Emperor Hermes took a step closer to Max, his mouth opening as if to speak, his eyes filled with a mixture of protectiveness and silent warning, but Max lifted his hand in a small, firm gesture, gently waving him off as if to say, Let me handle this.
In response, the Third Elder of the Void Soul Tower let out a furious shriek, pointing a trembling finger at Max as her eyes seemed to blaze with unquenchable hatred, and she screamed, "You bastard! I remember you! You killed my June—you burned her body into ashes!"
Max turned his gaze to her with a look of innocent confusion, tilting his head slightly as he replied in an almost gentle voice, "Who are you? I havent seen you before."
The Third Elder let out a strangled gasp, her face turning nearly purple with rage as she shouted, "You havent seen me?! Little bastard, you were standing before me laughing when you killed my June. How dare you say you dont know me!"
But Max only shook his head slowly, his eyes calm, and said with cool indifference, "Old Lady, I said I dont know you, so I dont know you. Simple as that."
"You—!" the Third Elder screamed, trembling violently, and for a moment it seemed as though she was about to launch herself at Max in a murderous frenzy, energy gathering around her in dangerous, swirling eddies, but Tower Lord Mathew lifted his arm and blocked her path with an iron grip, his face set in a cold mask as he fixed his steely gaze upon Max and spoke in a voice as sharp as a blade drawn halfway from its scabbard, "Are you going to surrender yourself, or do you want me to take action?"
His tone carried the unmistakable weight of deadly threat, sending a chill rippling through the crowd as everyone waited, breathless, to see how Max would answer—and whether the skies above Misty City were about to explode into the flames of war.
Max sneered inwardly as he listened to Tower Lord Mathews cold, threatening words, his mind calculating rapidly, yet on the surface, his face remained flawlessly innocent, his eyes wide and almost guileless as he tilted his head slightly and spoke in a calm, unruffled voice that carried surprisingly well across the silent expanse, "Ive been hearing this accusation for a while now. First, an elder from the Thunder Monarch Hall said I killed a 3-star genius, and now someone from the Void Soul Tower is claiming I killed a Heaven Grade genius... So, I just want to ask—could there possibly be some misunderstanding here? Is it not possible that you all have mistaken me for someone else?"
His polite tone, coupled with the gentle confusion etched into his features, was so disarming that a flicker of doubt rippled through some of the experts gathered around the swirling purple portal.
But the Third Elder of the Void Soul Tower, her face contorted with grief and blazing fury, practically shrieked as she stabbed a shaking finger in Maxs direction, roaring, "Little bastard! How dare you talk about misunderstandings?! I saw it with my own eyes—you killing June, my beloved student. You burned her body into ashes with black flames. Dont you dare act innocent!"
Max turned his gaze toward her with a frown creasing his brow, his expression filled with apparent patience as he sighed softly and said, "Like I said before, this is a misunderstanding. Ive never seen you before, and I have no idea what youre talking about."
Tower Lord Mathew, his cold composure beginning to fracture under the weight of Maxs steady refusal to admit guilt, took a sharp step forward, spiritual pressure surging around him like an invisible tide as he snapped, "Quit the acting, otherwise Ill kill you right here and now!"
Yet Max lifted his chin and met his deadly glare without flinching, his eyes suddenly sharpening with a glint of cold steel as he replied, his voice carrying a quiet but unmistakable edge, "If you want to kill me, then youll have to do it by overcoming my strength, because I will not simply roll over and die. But before you try, I have only one question—do you have any proof? Proof that I killed a 3-star genius of the Thunder Monarch Hall and a Heaven Grade genius of the Void Soul Tower? If you can produce such proof, then I have nothing more to say. I will accept whatever punishment the two forces are willing to give me."
For an instant, silence reigned as the crowd processed his bold declaration, and then, like ripples spreading across a pond, murmurs began to rise among the countless experts gathered around the purple portal, voices low and tinged with curiosity and doubt.
"Yeah, where is the proof that he killed a 3-star genius and a Heaven Grade genius? And this whole situation seems suspicious... Its not every day that geniuses of that level are killed."𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Another expert nodded, his brow furrowed in thought, and added, "Indeed, proof is needed. Thunder Monarch Hall and Void Soul Tower cant just accuse someone of such a serious crime without evidence that it was indeed Max who killed them."
A third voice, gentler and almost sympathetic, murmured, "True. Just look at how innocent and young he appears. How could someone like him kill not one but two top-level geniuses? I simply dont believe it!"
And so, the whispers grew louder and more frequent, weaving through the crowd like a rising tide, as doubt began to creep into the hearts of those who only moments earlier had looked upon Max as a potential monster, while high above, the leaders of the various overlord forces exchanged subtle glances, each calculating the shifting balance of power and the dangerous possibility that perhaps, just perhaps, this entire accusation might not be as straightforward as it had first seemed.
