409: Lucien
409: Lucien
The boy exhaled slowly, then gave a slow, honest nod.
“Your days are numbered,” he said bluntly, holding nothing back.
“Not in the sense that youll drop dead tomorrow, but your soul… its barely holding your body together.
The balance is broken.
Your Yang Soul is doing all the work, but its fraying, hanging by a thread.
If your power keeps growing like this… the day will come when it simply collapses, and when it does, youll die.
Not from a wound, not from age, but because your soul wont be able to contain your existence.”
Maxs brows furrowed, his jaw tight.
“I know that much already.
I didnt come here for a death sentence—I came here to find out if theres a cure.”
The boy paused, then let out a reluctant sigh and shook his head.
“Id love to help.
Really.
Especially if you were sent here by the elf race.
But…
I cant.
Not with what I know, not with what Im capable of.” The honesty in his tone was painful.
Maxs heartbeat spiked, panic starting to rise, but he quickly forced himself to breathe slowly and stay calm.
“You said you arent capable of helping me,” Max replied, voice steady but firm.
“But you didnt say theres no cure.
So tell me… do you know someone who can?” His gaze was locked onto the boys, unwavering.
He wasnt ready to die—and he wasnt giving up yet.
“Youre quite sharp,” the boy said with a small smile, nodding in quiet approval.𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
“Most people dont catch that kind of detail under pressure.”
He leaned back, arms loosely crossed, his tone turning more thoughtful.
“To be honest, I doubt theres anyone in the world who could help with a problem like yours.
Losing a Yin Soul is basically a death sentence.
But then again… youre still alive.
And that makes you a unique case.
If youre surviving with only a Yang Soul, then there must be a way—some strange exception the world hasnt figured out yet or maybe someone done something exceptional to keeping you alive.”
He paused, tapping his chin, and then pointed vaguely toward the north.
“Theres only one person I can think of.
In the entire Lower Domain—or hell, maybe the entire planet Acaris—theres just one person who might be able to help you.
Shes known as the Witch of the North.
Thats what people call her, at least.
But her witchcraft… its insane.
Beyond anything youve seen.
Im a fan of hers, honestly.
Creepy, mysterious, but a genius in her own twisted way.
If anyone can help you when death seems certain—its her.
No promises, though.”
Maxs eyes narrowed as he absorbed the name.
“Witch of the North…” he murmured.
His expression darkened slightly.
He had never planned on going north—it was a place full of danger, whispers, and madness—but it seemed fate had other plans.
“Oh, and one more thing,” the boy added casually, slipping back into his seat and grabbing his VR glasses again.
“When you meet her, tell her you were recommended by me—Lucien.
If you dont, you might just end up as one of her test subjects.
Shes got a thing for experimenting on people who wander in without warning.”
He flashed a mischievous smile, sliding the headset over his eyes.
“Now go.
Let me enjoy my game in peace.”
Max and Lenavira left the room without a word, the heavy wooden door closing quietly behind them.
As they stepped into the hallway, Lenavira let out a long breath, one she had clearly been holding for a while.
Max noticed and glanced at her.
“Who was that human kid?” he asked, curiosity piqued.
Lenavira hesitated, then answered softly, “I dont really know.
Hes been living in the kingdom for as long as I can remember.
And despite being a princess, I dont have the status to know anything more about him—just that his name is Lucien… and that hes one of the guardians of our race.
A specialist in soul.”
Max blinked, stunned.
“Even you dont have the clearance to know about him?” he asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
She was a royal.
A direct bloodline of the Elf Kingdom.
And yet she wasnt allowed to know the truth about that boy?
That could only mean one thing—Luciens identity wasnt just important.
It was something far beyond what ordinary power or titles could reach.
“Let me take you to the area where you can train without being overwhelmed by evil energy,” Princess Lenavira said softly, her tone calm as always.
As they walked through the vine-covered corridors of the palace, she handed him a small book bound in green and gold.
“And here—this is the lightning elemental technique I managed to find.
Take a look and let me know if it suits your needs.
If not, Ill search for something else.”
Max took the book from her and flipped through its pages, scanning the contents.
After a moment, he slowly shook his head and closed it.
“No,” he said, returning the book to her.
“The moves in this technique are too basic.
While theyre powerful in their own right, I already have something similar.
I dont need another standard technique.
What I want is something designed purely for combat—one thats all about offense.
Ruthless, lethal attacks.
A technique meant solely for destruction.”
Lenavira gave a nod of understanding as she took the book back.
“I see.
Ill see what I can find,” she said seriously, her expression shifting as she made a mental note.
Max hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
“Also… could you find someone for me?
No—go yourself, please.
Theres a red-haired human girl with phoenix flames named Alice.
You know the one human genius who you were talking about.
Tell her Im training here in the Elf Kingdom, mastering the Infernal Demon Tattoo.”
Lenavira blinked in surprise.
“Alice?
Who is she?”
Max smirked without missing a beat.
“Shes my girlfriend.”
A moment later, a puff of laughter escaped from Lenavira.
She raised a hand to her lips, clearly trying to hold back more.
“What?” Max asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Arent you two a little young for stuff like that?” she teased with a playful glint in her eyes.
Max shrugged, unbothered.
“Too young?
I feel like I could defeat you right now.
If I can manage that, would you still call me too young?”
“Oh?
Now thats what I call bragging,” Lenavira replied with a proud grin.
“Defeat me?
A royal with ancient blood flowing through her veins?
Let me remind you, Ive never lost in the Tower of Truth.
Not even once.”
Max sneered slightly, his voice calm but sharp.
“Well then, the day I reach the tenth floor, Ill challenge every peak genius across the Lost Continent.
I hope youre there to greet me.”
“Well see,” Lenavira said with a smirk as they walked side by side, their figures gradually fading from sight as they exited the palace, the warm sunlight of the Sylvaria Kingdom spilling across the treetop path ahead.
Meanwhile, back in the room they had left behind, Lucien was still lounging on his chair, VR glasses over his head as his fingers moved rapidly, lost in his digital world.
Yet, even amidst the chaos of whatever game he was playing, his thoughts lingered elsewhere.
“Since when did such a monstrous kid show up…” he muttered to himself, the game momentarily forgotten.
“Two strong bloodlines… a rare physique… carrying so much infernal energy inside his body without suffering from any backlash… and all of that while having only half a Yang soul holding him together.
His days are supposed to be numbered, yet he has this aura of supreme confidence.”
He paused for a moment, then chuckled quietly to himself, a mix of amusement and anticipation lighting up his face.
“Hehe… looks like its only a matter of time before the entire Middle Domain is swept into a storm.”
